Who are we?
The DISPEL to HABs research project was established at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine funded by the Florida Department of Health in December 2019. Partnering with the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, University of Miami Department of Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering, and University of Minnesota Medical School our goal is to collect and review human biomonitoring data amongst members of Florida communities to improve the understanding of the health risks associated with exposure to Harmful Algae Blooms.

Site Visit - September 2022

In September 2022, the Florida Department of Health provided a site visit to the DISPEL to HABs cohort study team at the University of Miami's Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science in Virginia Key, Florida. The visit included discussions on cohort recruitment, participant assessments and a tour of the lab facilities were the processing of environmental, water and biological samples take place.
Site Visit - June 2024

On June 18, 2024, the DISPEL team welcomed two Florida Department of Health employees to the University of Miami's Rosenstiel School on Virginia Key, FL. The visit included a meeting and discussion about DISPEL's past and future work, as well as a tour of the marine lab to show where and how biological and environmental samples are processed.
